The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has officially announced that Thailand is ready to host the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025, one of the most prestigious international events in the sport. The tournament will run from 22 August to 7 September 2025 and will feature 32 of the world’s top women’s national teams competing in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Nakhon Ratchasima.
Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, emphasized that hosting the event is part of the ‘Grand Sports’ series under the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025 campaign. He stated that the championship will boost Thailand’s global profile, give local fans the chance to enjoy elite volleyball action, and is expected to generate more than 8.5 billion Baht from tourism and global media coverage. The event is projected to reach over 1.3 billion viewers worldwide.
Global Competition in a Thai Setting
Teams from five continents will participate, including:
- Africa: 3 teams
- Asia: 4 teams
- Europe: 16 teams
- NORCECA (North, Central America, and Caribbean): 6 teams
- South America: 3 teams
Top teams such as the USA, China, Japan, Brazil, Türkiye, Italy, the Netherlands, and reigning champions Serbia will join host nation Thailand, making it a truly global event.
Tournament Schedule
The competition begins with the Pool Phase from 22 to 27 August, held across all four cities. The top 16 teams will advance to the knockout rounds in Bangkok, starting with the Round of 16 (29 August–1 September), followed by the Quarter-Finals (3–4 September), Semi-Finals (6 September), and the Final (7 September). Rest days will be scheduled between the phases.

Four Cities, One Passion for Volleyball
Each host city brings something special:
- Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, has hosted major sporting events like the Asian Games, World University Games, and the 2024 VNL Women’s Finals.
- Chiang Mai has a rich volleyball history, hosting the 1995 Women’s Asian Championship, the Southeast Asia Volleyball League, and the Beach Pro Tour.
- Nakhon Ratchasima is known as a volleyball hub and has hosted events like the 2019 U19 World Championship and Olympic qualifiers.
- Phuket, famous for beach sports, has hosted multiple FIVB World Tour tournaments and U19/U21 World Championships.
A Greener Game
Thailand is committed to making this a sustainable event through its “Green Heart Event” model. This initiative focuses on reducing waste, conserving energy, and running eco-friendly operations at all stages.
A Showcase of Thai Culture and Hospitality
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said the event aligns with the Five Grand Concepts of the tourism year: Grand Festivity, Grand Moment, Grand Privilege, Grand Invitation, and Grand Celebration. She noted that the tournament is a chance to showcase Thailand’s culture, hospitality, and ability to host world-class sustainable events.

Volleyball remains Thailand’s second most-watched sport, and the women’s national team, ranked among the world’s top 15, is expected to draw strong support from fans. The tournament will also build on the excitement from the 2025 SEA V.League Final, making it a milestone year for Thai volleyball.
